How to find your Twitch stream key and stream on other apps and devices

  • You can find your Twitch stream key in your account's stream settings.
  • If someone gets your Twitch stream key, you should reset it, change your password, and enable 2FA.
  • You can let others stream to your Twitch channel by giving them permission in your settings.

Twitch is probably the most popular streaming site in the world. And there are dozens of different pieces of streaming software that will let you broadcast on Twitch.

However, before you can start streaming on Twitch, you'll need to set up that streaming software. And to complete that setup, you'll need to have your Twitch stream key.

Your Twitch stream key lets the software know where to send your video to. Every Twitch channel has one, and most streaming apps require you to enter your key before you start recording.

Many popular games also feature "Twitch integration," which means you can enter your Twitch stream key to connect the game to your account. This often unlocks new features and game modes, which usually let the Twitch chat interact with the game in some way.

Here's how to find that stream key, using any internet browser on your Mac or PC.

How to find your Twitch stream key

1. Open an internet browser on your Mac or PC and head to the Twitch homepage, and log in.

2. Click the profile icon in the top-right corner, and select Creator Dashboard from the drop-down menu.

When you're ready to start streaming, you can provide this stream key to your chosen streaming software.

What to do if someone gets your Twitch stream key

If someone has your Twitch stream key, you may notice that your account is streaming content you didn't authorize.

If they have access to your entire account, you may notice other signs, such as personal and financial information being changed or unusual chat activity you didn't initiate. You might not even be able to log into your account, as the person may have changed your login credentials.

The first thing you should do if you suspect unauthorized access to your Twitch account is to change the password. Then, you should enable two-factor authentication.

To prevent others from using your stream key – if they already have it – is to reset it.

1. Open the Twitch homepage in your favorite browser, and log in.

2. Click the profile icon in the top-right corner, and select Creator Dashboard from the drop-down menu.

3. On your Creator Dashboard, click Settings in the left panel and select Stream.

4. In the Stream Key & Preferences section, locate the Primary Stream key option and click the Reset button on the right. The Reset button will turn green and have a checkmark on it to indicate that you have reset the key successfully.

Now when the person who has your Twitch stream key tries to use it, it will not work.

Should you share your Twitch stream key?

Although it's possible to share your Twitch stream key when you copy it, you should never do it — and you should take precautions not to accidentally reveal it during live streams.

The last thing you want is for someone else to stream content that will cause your account to get suspended, demonetized, or lose followers.

How to give access to let others stream on your Twitch channel

A more secure way to let others stream on your Twitch channel is to give them permission to do so.

1. Open the Twitch homepage in your favorite browser, and log in.

2. Click the profile icon on the top-right corner, and select Creator Dashboard from the drop-down menu.

3. On your Creator Dashboard, click Settings in the left side menu and select Stream.

4. In the Permissions section, click on People who can stream to your channel.

5. Enter the email of the person you want to give permission to in the text box and click Send Invite.

Alternatively, you can create a Squad Stream when you're streaming, which allows you to add other people to your Twitch stream. However, you'll have to be a Twitch Partner for this option to be available to you.

Streaming with Twitch Studio

If you regularly stream on Twitch, you're new to the platform, or don't want the hassle of setting up a Twitch stream on another app, you can download Twitch Studio. The app allows you to easily manage your Twitch stream, along with your activity feed and live chat.

You can check out this guide on getting started with Twitch Studio to familiarize yourself with the program. You'll learn everything you need to know about creating and editing scenes and then going live and interacting with your viewers and community.
