Fisher-Price recalled about 270,000 of its baby gliders following 4 infant deaths

Fisher-Price announced it was recalling about 270,000 of its gliders on Thursday.
The recall comes after four infant deaths that took place between 2019 and 2020 were linked to the product, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The incidents reportedly took place because the infants were found on their stomachs and at risk of suffocation after they were placed on their backs in the glider without the restraints in place.
"These types of incidents are heart-breaking," said Acting Chairman at CPSC Robert Adler. "Loving parents put their babies in these products never expecting a tragedy. Inclined products, such as gliders, soothers, rockers and swings are not safe for infant sleep, due to the risk of suffocation."
The recall impacts the 4-in-1 Rock'n Glider Soothers, as well as the 2-in-1 Soothe'n Play Gliders, though no incidents have been linked to the 2-in-1. Customers who own the product are encouraged to contact Fisher-Price for a full refund.
The company's General Manager Chuck Scothon reiterated Fisher-Price's commitment to safety.
"We are committed to educating parents and caregivers on the safe use of all of our products, including the importance of following all warnings and instructions to ensure the health and safety of babies and children," Scothon said.
The CPSC emphasized babies should always be placed to sleep on their backs and should only be allowed to sleep on firm flat surfaces, such as cribs or bassinets.
Fisher-Price has recalled products in the past. In 2019, the company issued a recall of nearly 5 million infant sleepers after more than 30 babies died in them. The company stopped making the Rock'n Play Sleeper after the recall.
