- You can update Spotify on your iPhone, iPad, or Android by going through the app store.
- On a PC or Mac, a small blue dot will appear next to your username whenever an update is available.
- Reinstalling Spotify will also automatically update it.
Like most apps, Spotify receives updates occasionally that add new features and fix bugs. But depending on how you listen to Spotify — on your phone, an iPad, or on a computer — updating the app takes different steps.
How to update Spotify on an iPhone or iPad
By default, your iPhone and iPad apps that have updates available should automatically install them all at once at some point during the day. But you can check for updates and get them installed manually through the App Store.
1. Open the App Store and tap your Apple ID icon in the top-right corner.
2. Scroll down to the Upcoming Automatic Updates section. If you find Spotify in this list, it has an update waiting — tap Update next to it, or Update All at the top.
If Spotify isn't there, there's no update available.
How to update Spotify on Android
Most Android phones update apps automatically as soon as they're available. But you can check manually through the Google Play Store.
1. Open the Play Store app and tap your user icon in the top-right corner.
2. Select the Manage apps & device option, then tap Updates available.
3. You'll see a list of every app that's waiting to be updated. Find Spotify in this list and tap Update next to it, or tap Update all at the top.
If Spotify isn't here, it's fully up to date.
How to update Spotify on Mac or PC
Unlike the other versions, the Mac and PC version of Spotify doesn't make you update it through an external app store. Instead, you'll have to update Spotify through the app itself.
Whenever a Spotify update is available, a blue dot will appear in the top-right corner of the window, next to your username.
Click your username to open a drop-down menu. In this menu, click the Update Available. Restart Now option.
Once Spotify starts back up, it'll be running the latest version.
