How to download songs from Spotify and listen to your favorite music offline

• To download songs on Spotify, go to a playlist or album and click or tap the Download button.
• When the download finishes, each song in the playlist or album will have a down arrow next to it.
• You'll need a Spotify Premium account if you want to download songs for offline listening.

Spotify allows users with Spotify Premium to download music so that they can listen to their favorite songs, albums, playlists, or podcasts offline.

If you're about to hop on a long train ride or are heading to an area without Wi-Fi, here's how to download your favorite songs for offline listening with a Spotify Premium account.

Note: Spotify doesn't allow you to download an individual song. However, you can add that song to a Spotify playlist, and then download that playlist to have it available offline.

How to download songs from Spotify on mobile

To download songs from Spotify, select the album or playlist and tap the the downward-facing arrow. When the download completes, you'll see a green downward-facing arrow next to each song.

Here's a full step-by-step breakdown.  

1. Launch the Spotify app on your iPhone or Android device and log into your Spotify Premium account.

2. Tap Your Library, in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

3. Tap the playlist or album you want to download.

4. In the playlist or album, tap the Download – the downward-facing arrow – button so that the toggle turns green. This will immediately download the songs in the playlist or album. You'll see a green downward-facing arrow next to each song when the download is complete.

Quick tip: To access the downloaded Spotify playlist or album on your phone, all you have to do is tap Your Library, and then tap the Downloaded filter button at the top.

Tap "Download" to only display the playlists and albums that are available offline.

How to download songs from Spotify on your computer

1. Subscribe to Spotify Premium, or log into your Premium account on your PC or Mac computer.

2. Click Your Library in the left side menu.

3. Click either the Playlist or Albums filter button at the top.

4. After you've selected the playlist or album from your account, click the Download button – the downward-facing arrow – next to the big green Play button. The button will turn green, and the playlist or album will immediately start downloading.

5. After you finish downloading your music, the songs in the playlist will be available offline. A gray downward-facing arrow will appear in the bottom right corner of the downloaded playlist or album's card in the Your Library screen.

Quick tip: To only play your downloaded playlists or albums on the Spotify desktop app, click the three horizontal dots in the top left corner, and select File > Offline mode.

Turn on "Offline Mode" to access downloaded content only.
