When you open the box, you're greeted with an explanation of how the puzzle works and a list of Easter eggs to look for as you complete it.
A large parchment envelope houses all the puzzle pieces. And best of all, there's no 👏 puzzle 👏 dust 👏.
The pieces themselves are whimsical. Here you can see a sampling of what you'll find in the box: a mix of traditional and unique shapes in a variety of sizes.
The pieces are also thick and well made from heavy cardstock. They felt quite premium compared to other puzzles I've assembled.
There are tons of thoughtful touches and details all throughout the puzzle. For example, it comes with two large copies of the finished artwork so that two people can work on the puzzle at once.
It's not all about the ending. The Mystic Maze puzzle provided little surprises and fun twists all throughout the process of putting it together. Even the puzzle pieces have incredible details to keep you engaged.
Without saying too much, nothing is quite as it seems in this puzzle. Even putting together the border together at the beginning came with it's fair share of surprises.
Along the way, you'll uncover the story of the puzzle. The Mystic Maze features a yellow-jacketed hero in various vignettes and challenges.
The signature "magic trick" is housed within a separate envelope with warnings not to open until you've finished the whole puzzle.
My lips are sealed about what's inside, but I'll say that the trick really ties the whole puzzle story together and feels like the cherry on top of an already delightful and engaging puzzle.
It's hard to say or show much more without giving away the secrets of the puzzle.
Even showing you the completed puzzle would reveal some of the surprises in store. Suffice to say, if you're a puzzler like me, you'll find the Magic Puzzle Company puzzles a bold and whimsical departure from the typical jigsaw. I highly recommend you give them a try if you're looking for something new.
Pros: Original and engaging art, lots of unique pieces and surprises throughout putting it together, a magic trick at completion, durable and high-quality pieces, thoughtful packaging, Easter eggs to find while putting it together, no puzzle dust (!)
Cons: Loses its replay value after the first solve (then again, so do most puzzles)
