US Olympic swimmer Klete Keller pleaded guilty on Wednesday to a felony charge connected to the January 6 Capitol riot, according to multiple reports.
The five-time Olympic medalist appeared in court on Wednesday to enter his guilty plea of obstruction of an official proceeding, local news station WUSA reported , which is a felony that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
A plea with the government includes an agreement for 38-year-old Keller to cooperate with investigators and the Department of Justice in return will drop the other six charges he faces, the report said, and that he faces a recommended prison sentence of 15-21 months.
Keller admitted to being inside the Capitol during the riot, and later destroying a phone he used and discarding an Olympic jacket he was wearing, according to POLITICO reporter Josh Gerstein .
Keller was charged in January and indicted in February with seven charges related to the Capitol riot, the report said. He was identified because of his Team USA jacket with a US Olympic Team patch on it.
District Court judge Richard Leon didn't set a date yet for Keller's sentencing and his next court date is scheduled for December 16, USA Today reported .
