Two days after suffering serious injuries in a single-vehicle crash , Tiger Woods has been transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, according to a statement from his doctor.

Woods, 45, was moved to a different facility roughly 20 miles away “for continuing orthopedic care and recovery,” said Dr. Anish Mahajan, interim CEO and chief medical officer of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where Woods originally was taken to the level 1 trauma center and treated following his accident early Tuesday morning in Rolling Hills Estates, California.

Woods survived Tuesday morning’s car accident with his life, but the road to recovery has just begun. He suffered “significant” leg injuries that already required extensive surgery and a rod being inserted into his lower right leg.

Woods’ injuries include “comminuted open fractures affecting both the upper and lower tibia and fibula” Mahajan said.

Los Angeles County Fire Chief Daryl Osby told reporters Tuesday that responders told him there were injuries to both legs, although the extent of the injuries to the left leg remains unknown.

Woods was driving a Genesis SUV courtesy car by himself en route to a video shoot with one of his sponsors. He is believed to have been running late and traveling at a high speed before striking a divider in the road, according to authorities. The area is considered to be a trouble spot for speeding, with 13 reported accidents since last January.

Los Angeles Country Sheriff’s Deputy Carlos Gonzalez, who was the first law officer to respond to the crash, found Woods to be lucid and strapped into his seat belt, but trapped as the SUV had rolled over onto the driver’s side door.

To respect patient confidentiality, Harbor-UCLA Medical Center’s statement said it will not provide any further information about the patient’s care.

“On behalf of our staff, it was an honor to provide orthopedic care to one of our generation’s greatest athletes,” the statement said.

Woods’ team announced the move Friday night with a statement on Twitter that said the procedures were successful and Woods was recovering and in good spirits.

“Tiger and his family want to thank you all for the wonderful support and messages they have received over the past few days,” the message read in part. “We will not have any further updates at this time.”
