Lindsay Ell Reveals She Was Raped at 13

WENN Celebrity The 31-year-old country music singer opens up on the sexual assault she suffered when she was a young girl in a newly-released emotional song called 'Make You'. AceShowbiz - Country star Lindsay Ell has opened up for the first time about the rape she suffered as a teenager on a new track. Despite often using her lyrics to give fans a window into her emotions and personal life, Lindsay, 31, has never spoken of the assault, the first of two she has suffered, until addressing it in her new ballad, "Make You". "I was raped when I was 13, and it happened again when I was 21," she tells People magazine. "The song only talks about the first time. It's just a difficult thing to talk about, and it's something that I process every day still." In the new track, co-written with Brandy Clark, she sings, "It's gonna make you hate yourself / When you didn't hate yourself at all / It's gonna make you build a fortress / Where you never had a wall." Lindsay also made the decision to release "Make You" on Global Forgiveness Day on Tuesday (7Jul20) - as she wants to feel free from her past, having coped with the demons caused by the assault for years. "I wanted to release it on Global Forgiveness Day. Forgiving people in our past is a huge thing for whatever reason, but forgiving yourself is so important," she adds. "There's an incredible amount of healing that can happen, and it can't happen until you can truly open up that forgiveness for your own heart." "Part of me talking about it now is liberating the little 13-year-old Lindsay and the 21-year-old Lindsay. Pain is something we can let control us if we don't deal with it, but the minute you put a voice to your story the shame has no power." The new track will also feature on her forthcoming album, " Heart Theory ". You can share this post!
