The Papers: Race 'tensions rise' and Brexit border 'U-turn'

Image caption Anti-racism protests in the UK are prominent on Friday's front pages ahead of a weekend of planned further demonstrations. According to the Guardian, Black Lives Matter organisers have cancelled a planned protest in London's Hyde Park on Saturday - due to "many hate groups" threatening their safety. Demonstrations by other groups are due to go ahead, it says. The paper also highlights the growing debate over statues of historical figures linked to racism and slavery.
Image caption The Times splashes with new plans, by Justice Secretary Robert Buckland and Home Secretary Priti Patel, that will see protesters face "24-hour justice" if they cause vandalism, criminal damage or assault police officers - amid mounting concerns that Britain is facing "a summer of disorder". Separately, the paper reports the mandatory use of facemasks slows the growth of coronavirus cases by 40%, citing a German study.
Image caption The Daily Telegraph reports the home secretary has said she "will not be silenced", after 32 Labour MPs signed a letter accusing her of exploiting her Asian heritage to challenge the use of violence at Black Lives Matter protests.
Image caption And "Dyb Dyb Dob Dob Ding-Dong" is the Daily Star's headline - apparently referencing a Scouts campfire chant - as it says people are "in a tizzy" over a statue of Robert Baden-Powell, the Scouts founder. It is to be removed from Poole Quay amid fears it is on a "target list for attack". Baden-Powell, who died aged 83 in 1941, has been criticised by campaigners who have accused him of racism, homophobia and support for Adolf Hitler.
Image caption The Financial Times says the government has scrapped its plan to introduce full border checks with the EU on 1 January amid fears of the economic impact of coronavirus. Instead of full checks, the government will introduce a temporary "light-touch regime" at UK ports such as Dover for incoming EU goods, in both a deal and "no-deal" scenario, says the paper.
Image caption The Daily Mail focuses on the government's 2m social distancing rule. It says a cross-party group of MPs have warned three-quarters of pubs, restaurants and hotels would find it "impossible to operate financially" unless the requirement is scrapped.
Image caption But, according to the Daily Express, the 2m rule "must stay to save lives". It says experts have warned axing the 2m rule could risk a devastating rise in coronavirus infections.
Image caption "Spend to Save Britain," says the Daily Mirror as it claims Boris Johnson has been told he must spend big to avoid a new Great Depression in the UK. A report has warned 10% of people could be out of work by the end of the year, according to the paper.
Image caption The i says cancer experts have called for urgent support as referrals have dropped 60% due to the coronavirus pandemic. "Cancer doesn't wait," says the paper as it reports people have been urged to take possible symptoms to the GP and follow up until they receive results or treatment.
Image caption And the Sun carries an interview with Harry Potter author J K Rowling's first husband.
